056 A strong core
Within the fitness industry we talk allot about core stability, but what exactly is the core and why is it so important when training.
Core refers to ‘the central' or 'inner part', and stability refers to ‘the capacity of an object to return to equilibrium or to its original position after being displaced’. Therefore, core stability can be considered the ability to stay balanced while shifting weight or moving the body from its centre of gravity.
Core stability has also been defined as the ability to move the limbs (arms and legs) whilst maintaining correct alignment of the spine, pelvis and shoulder girdle, and refers to the ability of the trunk to support the effort and forces from the arms and legs, so that muscles and joints can perform in their safest, strongest and most effective positions.
