011.2 What is a superset?

What is a superset?


When viewing a programme or session plan you may sometimes come across exercises designated as A1 and A2, B1 and B2, and so on, these indicate paired supersets in which you perform one exercise after the other with no rest in between. Perform a set of exercise number one then a set of exercise number two. Rest for the desired amount of time, then go back to exercise one, and so fourth until you have performed the prescribed number of sets.


You may also see the above system used to group exercises in threes (giant sets) or even more four and higher (circuits, metcons etc.), however, still use the same structure, going straight from one exercise to the next until the full sequence is complete, then rest for the set time given.
